Holiday Travel Savings
Book Early
To make sure you get the best price for holiday airfares book as early as possible. The outlook is bleak for holiday bargains this year, so if you haven't already booked your tickets for the holidays you should definitely do so now.
Be Flexible
If at all possible schedule your travel around the busiest holiday travel days. The most expensive days for example for Thanksgiving are the Wednesday before and the Sunday after, if you can schedule your flight for Tuesday and return on Monday you will be able to save. Unfortunately not everyone can be this flexible due to children, and work responsibilities. While it is not a great way to spend the actual holiday there are many cheaper fares on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
Check Flight Status
With capacity cuts your flight plans could change a great deal from the time you book to when you actually board your flight. Make sure to check back regularly to make sure the flight didn't get overbooked or connection plans changed. Always make sure your airline has up to date contact information as they will usually contact you to let you know if there is a change in the status of your flight.
Plan Ahead
If you have a connecting flight, make sure that your schedule allows enough time between flights for baggage transfer and for you to find the next gate. If you miss a flight you can end up paying exorbitant prices to catch a later flight.
Avoid Delay Prone Airports.
While planning your flight try to avoid making a connecting flight stop at airports that are know to experience a lot of delays. For example New York airports in the winter tend to have many delayed flights due to weather. The delay can cause you to miss a connecting flight.

Travel Tips; Safety Travel to Unfamiliar Destinations
Here's some more travel tips I read in the internet. If you are traveling to a new and not familiar destination consider pay attention to these 33 safety travel tips from by Matthew Keegan at ezinearticle.com
"Traveling to unfamiliar destinations can bring to you the sort of troubles you do not want to experience while on the road namely: robbery, rape, or murder. Tourists often fall prey to perpetrators because they do not prepare properly before embarking on a trip. Let's examine some things you should do to prevent your travels from becoming a tragedy":
1. Never list your home address on the luggage tag. If on business, put the company's address on the tag; if visiting friends you can list their address. Use covered luggage tags as well.
2. Stay with your luggage until the luggage is checked. If you must put your bag down, keep one foot on the handle.
3. Carry important papers with you; NEVER check anything that you simply cannot afford to lose. Photocopy your passport, driver's license and credit cards.
4. Bring a small flashlight. You never know when you'll suddenly be "in the dark" and find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. At night, keep your flashlight by your bed.
5. Make sure that your prescription medicines are filled properly and labeled accurately. In some countries certain prescription medicines are forbidden.
6. Never wear anything that projects affluence. No gold chains, expensive watches and rings, luggage, or other paraphernalia should be in easy view. Better yet: leave your jewelry at home.
7. If possible travel with only one or two credit cards.
8. Women particularly should never accept a drink from a stranger. Keep an eye on your drink at all times.
9. Vary your schedule; try not to come and go at the same time everyday.
10. Only stay in a hotel that uses cards to open room doors and make sure your room has a peephole and a deadbolt lock. Secure the chain and secure the door by pushing a rubber stop under it.
11. Stay in a room near a stairwell. Never take the elevator if a fire or smoke is detected. Always stay in a hotel where the doors enter the hallway and not directly from the outside.
12. Do not wear name tags in public.
13. Do not use unmarked taxi cabs.
14. Sit behind the driver so you can see him, but he cannot see you.
15. Pay the driver upon arriving at your destination and while you are still sitting in the vehicle.
16. If you must rent a car, rent only from a reputable company. Any operating problems that occur could signal sabotage.
17. Be aware of 'staged' car accidents meant to catch you off card.
18. Back into your parking spaces to facilitate a quick exit.
19. Park only in well lit and well traveled areas.
20. If your cell phone does not work outside of the country, consider renting one that does for the duration of your trip.
21. If detained for whatever reason by an official, ask for identification. If in doubt, tell them that you want to see his superior. Keep your emotions in check.
22. If traveling with children, bring along an updated photograph of each child in the event that you become separated from them.
23. Write your child's name and your hotel number on each card; include a close friend's or relative's contact information on the card. Give a card to each child which they will carry with them as long as you are away. Destroy once home.
24. Discuss with your family what they would do in event of an emergency while away from home, e.g. whom to call, how to contact emergency personnel, etc.
25. Do not discuss travel plans, your room number or any other personal information in public within earshot of strangers.
26. Bring along a basic first aid kit with bandages, iodine, mosquito repellant, sunscreen, alcohol packets, dramamine, pepto bismol, diarrhea medicine, etc.
27. Familiarize yourself with train and bus schedules before traveling. Have an alternate plan in place in the event your transportation plans change.
28. Do not flash your passport in public. Discreetly show important documents to officials only.
29. Consider purchasing portable alarms that emit a loud sound.
30. Watch for scams on the street. Children working with adults are notorious as pickpockets.
31. Never flash your money in public. Exchange funds with reputable and recognized exchangers only.
32. Have tips ready in advance for service personnel.
33. Consider renting an escort [security] service if traveling in areas where crime is high.
The key to safe traveling in any area is situational awareness. Distractions because of luggage, children, hotel personnel, strangers, etc. can put you at risk. Know your surroundings and stay in control of every situation.

Indoor Plants
Our planter box used to be full of plants on it but the plants started dying when one of our cats “August” began going potty on it even if she had a cat litter box in the bathroom. I guessed she had discovered that it’s a good place to go potty because there’s dirt on it as she was used to be an outdoor cat. We tried to replant some in the planter box but it didn’t work because August still kept doing her bad habits until we decided to get rid of her so solve our problem. We gave her back to hubby’s younger brother who was supposed to be August’s real owner. We are thinking about putting new plants on the planters to make it look better now that August is gone.
By the way, if you are looking for nice and decorative planters to showcase your plants with your personal style planterixchange is the best place to shop. Planterixchange has all the different kinds of planters you will need, whether indoor or outdoor planters at an affordable price you can get. Travel Tips: Travel While Pregnant
- If you plan to take a plane trip while pregnant, discuss it with your doctor first. Barring any problems or complications, your doctor will probably let you go - except in the very early stages (when miscarriages are more likely to occur) or in the later stages (when you may be more likely to go into labor). Most airlines have regulations regarding how late into a pregnancy you may travel. Check before you fly to avoid disappointment.
It is probably not a good idea to travel anywhere that requires prior immunization. Avoiding the introduction or ingestion of foreign substances during pregnancy (including alcohol and nicotine) is the safest route to a healthy baby.
Try to book a seat with comfort in mind:
- A seat near the bathroom will facilitate more frequent bladder emptying.
- An aisle seat will make it easier to get up for quick walks (and trips to the washroom)
- Bulkhead seats have the most legroom.
- First class seats will be most comfortable - if you can afford the expenditure.
- Don't forget to get a medical certificate from your doctor before travelling, confirming that it is ok for you to travel at this stage.
Take a Friend Along
- If possible, do not travel alone during your pregnancy. Always keep your emergency contact number, and doctor's contact details handy so that if needed someone can find the details easily in your luggage and contact the right person at the right time.

Travel Tips: Avoiding Baggage Problems
Packing
- Avoid putting the following in checked baggage
- Valuables (cash, jewelry). Don't rely on suitcase locks; they are easily defeated.
- Critical items (medicine, keys, passport, tour vouchers, business papers).
- Irreplaceable items (manuscript, heirlooms).
- Fragile items (camera, eyeglasses, glass containers). If these must be checked, wrap them carefully in padding.
- Perishables.
- on your person, or
- in a small bag that you carry on board.
Don't overpack checked bags. This puts pressure on the latches, making it easier for them to spring open.
Your checked bags may need to be opened for a security inspection out of your presence. If you wish to lock your bags, see www.tsa.gov for information on locks that security personnel can open and then re-lock. If you use an unapproved lock and your bag is selected for inspection, the security staff will break the lock if necessary.
Put a tag on the outside of your baggage with your name, home address, and home and work phone numbers. The airlines provide free stick-on tags. Most carriers also have "privacy tags" which conceal this information from passersby.
Put the same information inside each bag, and add an address and telephone number where you can be reached at your destination city.
Carry-on baggage advice:
- Check with the airline for any limits it has on the size, weight, or number of carry-on bags. (There is no single federal standard.)
- Inquire about your flight; different airplanes can have different limits.
- If you are using more than one airline for a trip, check on all of them.
- A heavy bag which fits in an overhead bin may still cause the bin to exceed its weight limit.
- Don't assume that the flight has unlimited closet space for garment bags; some may have to be checked.
- Don't pack anything in a carry-on bag that could be considered a weapon (e.g., scissors, knife).
Don't check in at the last minute. Even if you make the flight, your bag may not.
Make sure that you get a claim check for every bag that you check. Don't throw them away until your bags are returned. Not only will you need them if a claim is necessary, but you may need to show them to security upon leaving the baggage-claim area. Don't leave them in the seat-pocket on the airplane.
Verify that the agent checking your bags attaches a destination tag to each one. (Remove tags from previous trips to avoid confusion.) Check to see that these tags show the correct three-letter code for your destination airport.
Know where your bags are checked to. They may be checked only to one of your intermediate stops rather than your final destination if:
- you must clear Customs short of your final destination, or
- you are taking a connecting flight involving two airlines which don't have an interline agreement (e.g., Southwest Airlines does not transfer bags to other carriers).
- nonstop flights
- through flights (one or more stops, but no change of aircraft)
- online connections (change of aircraft but not airlines)
- interline connections (change of aircraft and airlines)
Your chances of recovery can be improved depending on where and how you bought your airline ticket. Some credit card companies and travel agencies offer optional baggage insurance; some others provide it automatically.
Claiming Your Bags
If your bag arrives open, unlocked or visibly damaged, check immediately to see if any of the contents are missing or damaged.
Report any problems to your airline before leaving the airport. Insist that the airline fill out a form and give you a copy, even if they say the bag will be in on the next flight. Get the agent's name and an appropriate telephone number for following up (not Reservations).
It's not unusual for the airline to take your claim checks when you report the problem; simply make sure this is noted on all copies of the report.
Before leaving the airport, ask the airline if they will deliver the bag without charge when it is found. Also ask about an advance or reimbursement for any items you must buy while your bag is missing.
Open your suitcase immediately when you get to where you are staying. Report any damage to contents or pilferage immediately by telephone. Make a note of the date and time of the call, and the name and telephone number of the person you spoke with. Follow up immediately with a certified letter.

TSA Ready for 'Checkpoint Friendly' Laptop Bags
-------------------------------------------
Aug. 5, 2008
TSA Public Affairs
(571) 227-2829
WASHINGTON – To help streamline the security process and better protect laptops, starting August 16 the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will allow passengers to leave their laptop computers in bags that meet new "checkpoint friendly" standards.
This public-private collaboration took just five months to go from concept to reality. TSA reached out to manufacturers in March to design bags that will produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when undergoing X-ray screening. Designs meeting this objective will enable TSA to allow laptops to remain in bags for screening. More than 60 manufacturers responded and 40 submitted prototypes for testing.
"This is a solid example of government collaborating with the private sector to conceptualize and produce a product that really works to improve and advance the security process," said TSA Administrator Kip Hawley. "We put the challenge out there and bag manufacturers overwhelming responded with innovative products that provide a win-win for travelers and TSA."
For a bag to be considered checkpoint friendly it should meet the following standards:
- A designated laptop-only section
- The laptop-only section completely unfolds to lie flat on the X-ray belt
- No metal snaps, zippers or buckles inside, underneath or on top of the laptop-only section
- No pockets on the inside or outside of the laptop-only section
- Nothing packed in the laptop-only section other than the computer itself.
TSA expects the majority of new bags meeting checkpoint friendly standards to be available for purchase in mid-August. There are a small percentage of bags currently on the market that meet the new standards, include sleeve-like carrying cases without pockets or zippers. These bag types have been tested and can produce a clear, unobstructed image as long as nothing else is in the case.
TSA is not approving or endorsing any bag design or manufacturer and will only allow laptops to stay in bags through screening if they provide a clear and unobstructed X-ray image of the laptop.
To help streamline the security process and better protect laptops, TSA recently encouraged manufacturers to design bags that will produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when undergoing X-ray screening. A design that meets this objective will enable TSA to allow laptops to remain in bags for screening.
