Fishing

I'm tired and sleepy have been online for several hours doing some changes on this blog. I'm glad I'm done and I'm satisfied about my blog's look now. I'm waiting for hubby to come home from work. He is supposed to get home earlier tonight than his normal hours since tomorrow starts his days off until Sunday. He's been working 10 days straight and I'm glad his gonna get off from work and be able to spend more time together for 3 days in a row. He wants to go fishing tonight when he gets off from work. We'll see if his not tired when he comes home. I'm tired and sleepy though I'm sure he would want me to go with him. Hmmm, it's gonna be so cold and dark outside. He doesn't want to go fishing during the day coz it's too hot. I'm gonna ask him if we could do it tomorrow in the afternoon when the sun goes down coz it doesn't get dark here 'til 9 in the evening.

New Template

Finally, I was able to change my template to a new one. I was worried a little bit about changing to a new template bcoz I might loss all the links in my blogroll but through research I was able to find the solution on how to change a new template without losing the links in my blogroll. Internet is really amazing coz you can find all the information you want to know I'm not a computer savvy but through searching and reading I was able to get a lot of information and knowledge on how to make changes in my page.

If you want to change your template without jeopardizing all the links in your blogroll or even the widgets on your page just read the instructions on this site it was really helpful for someone like me who is not a computer savvy.

Template...

I'm tired of looking at the template of this blog and thinking about changing a new one but a little bit hesitant because I might mess up the widgets that I have on this blog or even loss my bloglists. I wonder how I'm going to change my template but still keep the link lists in my blogroll. I know that I have to save the html of this template before I make any changes to store everything. But how am I going to do to keep my link list when I change into a new template? Any suggestions and idea will be appreciated.

Warm Cloudy Monday

We have a warm but cloudy Monday today. I thought we would get much rain last night coz it was so cloudy and there was thunder and lightning but when I woke up this morning I didn't see any signs that the rain made it here. Although it rained in some places of the valley. I always tell hubby that our location in this part of the valley is very weird coz we rarely get rain and even if it shows the thick clouds still the rain won't pour down in this part of the valley. Last night we just enjoyed watching the lightning while we were sitting in the living room facing the wide glass window. Our dog "Bandit" was so scared as he heard the thunder and saw the lightning through the window. We have to have him stay in between me and hubby while we were in the couch to comfort him coz he was shaking so bad.

Have a great week everyone!

Money-Saving Travel Tips - Save on Summer Travel

How to Save on Summer Travel - With Rising Gas and Air Prices Find Ways Save!

When traveling internationally:

  • Visit destinations where the U.S. dollars is closest in value to the local currency (currency in the Caribbean is tied to the U.S. dollar, for example)
  • Look for all inclusive packages, such as resorts or cruises and pay upfront in U.S. dollars
  • Ask your travel agent about locations that may be less costly as they are in their 'off season'

Ways to save money on hotels:

  • Ask your travel agent about upgrading your hotel reservation to a room with two king size beds instead of getting two hotel rooms when traveling in groups or with kids
  • Ask your travel agent to find hotels where kids stay for free or cheaper when traveling with kids
  • Ask your travel agent to find a hotel room with a kitchenette so you can take care of a few meals yourself instead of eating out for every meal
  • Your travel agent can suggest properties that might offer complimentary breakfast or heavy hors d'oeuvres in the afternoon.

When traveling by car:

  • Pack the car as light as possible - the more weight, the harder the car works and the more gas you use
  • When renting a car for a large group of people, renting one SUV saves on gas mileage vs. renting two smaller cars
  • Make sure tire pressure is accurate so that gas is spent efficiently
  • Use only the grade level of gas that your car owners manual calls for, nothing more
  • Use cruise control to run the engine efficiently and save on gas

Ways to save at home while you are away:

  • Turn the air conditioning off or down
  • Put your lights on timers
  • Unplug large appliances like TV's and computers
  • Turn off automatic sprinklers

Other Tips:

  • Buy travel insurance: it may cost more upfront, but has the potential to save you thousands
  • Fly in and out of airports that may be farther outside of the city to get cheaper flights then take public transportation into the city
  • If a family member has a business trip, consider adding your vacation onto the end of the trip so there is one less plane ticket to pay for
  • Consider a volunteer vacation--the volunteer portion of your travel may be a tax write-off

Gateway Canyons Resort

When John S. Hendricks and his family first came to Gateway, Colorado in 1995 to build his family home here, he was deeply moved by the beauty and history of the area as well as by the spirit of the people who lived in this remote section of the country. Soon, Mr. Hendricks began to develop a vision—create a sustainable, scenic-based recreation economy designed to replace the area’s long-lost mining economy.

Gateway Canyons Resort is located in Gateway, Colorado approximately 2 hrs from Grand Junction, Colorado. Hubby, me and the children took a tour to this place on the 5th of July the day after Independence Day. It was a beautiful ride and it was my first time to visit Gateway Canyons Resort although it was hubby's second time to visit Gateway, Colorado but it was also his first time to get into the resort. One of the main attractions of Gateway Canyons is the Auto Museum which shows the different models of classic cars way back as early as the 1900's. Below are some of the classic cars that I took photos of.

This car behind me is a 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 which John Hendricks purchased during the Barret-Jackson Classic Car Auction. The car cost $3.24 million which was the highest bid during the auction and was among the top 10 prices ever paid for a classic car.

Gateway, Colorado

The day after 4th of July that was Saturday I told hubby that I would like to take a drive around some of the places in the Mesa County, Colorado. He said we will take a loop from Grand Junction, to Gateway and come out of Montrose and Delta going back to Grand Junction. Since he was not familiar yet with which way to go to take the loop we decided to grab Colorado Maps to Walmart and so he dropped me off to Walmart to buy the road map while he went to Sam's Club to refill the car with gas. I got a couple of colorado maps with me when he got back to pick me up. The children are with us also during that trip.

Along the way we pass by many beautiful scenic views of the mountains, we saw one ram which has a quiet big horns, we stopped by and took come photos of it. We reach Gateway, Colorado after driving approximately 2 hrs although gateway is only 1 hr and 10 mins drive but since we stopped every now and then to take photos along the road so it took us awhile to reach there.

Gateway is home to the Gateway Canyons Resort and Auto Museum. Established by Discovery Channel founder John S. Hendricks, this resort blends in naturally to the landscape that surrounds it.

4th of July

OMG 4th of July!!

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Congress approved the wording of the Declaration on July 4 and then sent it to the printer. Whether John Hancock, as the elected President of the Second Continental Congress, or anyone else signed the document that day is unknown, because that document has been lost — presumably destroyed in the printing process. Hancock's name and that of a witness do appear on the typeset broadside that was published within a few days. On August 2 in the following month, an engrossed document in script form was signed by Hancock and other delegates.

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, baseball games, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States, but is often also viewed as simply a summer festival, apart from its patriotic overtones.

Planning and Packing Tips for Fun and Safe Family Travel

Planning and Packing

Give them a bag of their own
Most kids find the idea of packing fascinating—so let them in on the action: By the age of 3 or 4, they're ready to carry their own backpack. The bag isn't really going to lessen the load; the idea is to teach kids about responsibility and to get them excited for the trip. The bag can hold a few toys, crayons, and snacks. Forget the Harry Potter book: You don't want to make the pack too heavy (for your kid, but also for yourself, as you'll most likely be called to duty). And to keep track of things, you may want to hang on to it and hand it over only after passing through airport security.

Trip research can be a family activity
Google destinations with your children. Encourage interests—such as Native American history, Lewis and Clark, cowboys, the American Revolution, trains, or dinosaurs—that correspond to your trip. Kids enjoy thumbing through guidebooks with lots of pictures, like the DK Eyewitness series. Have them flag the pages that feature places they want to see.

Each person gets to plan an afternoon
Make it mandatory that everyone participate in the chosen activity, no matter if it's arcade games, afternoon tea, miniature golf, pottery painting, or a cannonball contest at the pool.

Think like a local, not a tourist

Everyone knows to search out fun activities and good restaurants while on vacation, but you should also think of more-practical locations: Find the nearest park, supermarket, movie theater, emergency room (hospitals with pediatric ERs are ideal), pediatrician who will accept your insurance, and 24-hour pharmacy.

Pack for four daysNo more, no less
Do laundry rather than toting along clothes for the entire trip. Even if you're going away for a shorter period, packing for four days gives you backup options when the inevitable accident occurs. When you fly, bring two days' worth of diapers and an extra set of clothes for everyone in carry-on bags in case your checked luggage is delayed (or someone spits up).

Load up on antibacterial wipes
Buy them in travel packs, in bulk, or individually wrapped, and then stick them in your glove box, carry-on, purse, and day pack, and amid the stash of toys. You'll also want to spread around packets of tissues, in case of a runny nose.

Don't haul all those bulky items
Instead, buy or rent booster seats, beach toys, etc., once you've arrived. Rental service babysaway.com has over 70 locations around the country. If you'd rather not rent, consider buying (or borrowing) used merchandise. Many kids' consignment stores will rent out items so long as you bring them back in good condition.

Ziplocs all around
Use varying sizes of resealable plastic bags for snacks, toys, first-aid supplies, wipes, kids' clothes—one for each day's outfit—wet swimsuits, travel documents, trash, and just about everything else.

Bring just one small stroller
Unless you're traveling with an infant who is too young to sit up, try to make do with only an umbrella stroller that can fold up quickly and compactly. And bring a cloth awning to drape over the stroller on sunny days. Even if you're going to the beach for a week and don't think you'll need a stroller, you might appreciate having one—if only when maneuvering through airports.
